Open Studio Program

for DSHS DDCS Waiver Clients

For DDCS clients, Open Studio may be fully covered — meaning eligible participants can attend at no cost while still receiving full support and quality instruction.

DESCRIPTION

About Open Studio Respite

Students register to request services for recurring studio sessions and choose the schedule that fits their needs and comfort level. Sessions are available in 1-, 2-, or 3-hour blocks, with the option to attend once or twice each week. Open Studio is held Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, giving families consistent times that are easy to plan around.

During each visit, students settle into a creative routine that feels safe and familiar. Our teaching artists provide mentorship and guidance while encouraging independence and personal expression. Sessions include time to explore materials, develop skills, and work on projects - plus moments to interact, share ideas, and build friendships.

Open Studio creates a rhythm students can rely on, while still keeping art fun, open-ended, and full of possibilities.

MATTERS

Why This Option Matters

This pathway removes financial barriers and gives DDCS clients the opportunity to experience the full benefits of Open Studio without any added expense. Instead of worrying about cost, families can focus on what truly matters — growth, learning, and connection. Creative opportunities are no longer limited by budget; they are guided by the individual’s needs, abilities, and potential.

Participants gain access to meaningful, guided art instruction that encourages independence, builds emotional awareness, improves communication, and supports social development. They have space to explore their creativity, take pride in their work, and feel like valued members of the studio community.

For families, this option brings real peace of mind. They know their loved one is spending time in a safe, encouraging environment where they are supported, engaged, and given opportunities to thrive both artistically and personally.
